THE GROWING MIND SERIES – ONLINE COURSES

Everyday Attachment : Raising Emotionally Secure Children and Adolescents

PART ONE

Feel Confident About the Relationship You’re Building.

Understand how secure attachment forms, why it matters so deeply, and how everyday moments of responsive care shape emotional wellbeing, brain development, and a child’s sense of safety. Learn how you can nurture secure attachment, what can disrupt it, and most importantly, how it can always be strengthened in simple, everyday ways — from pregnancy through childhood and beyond.

Imagine this…

Your toddler…
Clings at kindy drop-off - you stay calm and reassuring, helping them feel safe enough to separate.

Your child…
Lashes out at a sibling — you step in with regulation first, not punishment, and the moment passes.

Your teenager…
Snaps when screen time ends — you hold the limit without losing the relationship.

In this course you will learn…

  • What attachment is, how it begins (even before birth), and why it is essential

  • How early relationships shape the brain, nervous system, and emotional regulation

  • Why babies and children need co-regulation and cannot manage stress alone

  • How calm, responsive caregiving supports emotional and physical health

  • How children develop internal working models that shape lifelong relationships

  • The four attachment styles and how they show up in behaviour and emotions

  • Why secure attachment supports confidence, resilience, empathy, and wellbeing

  • How attachment can be strengthened at any age, even after disruption or stress

  • How to parent with compassion, clarity, and confidence — without needing perfection

About Megan & The Hand to Heart Project

Clinical Psychologist and Paediatric Neuropsychologist Megan Fowler.

The Hand to Heart Project was founded with a simple but powerful mission: to help parents, educators, and professionals better understand the science behind childhood development—and apply it in ways that truly make a difference.

Led by Clinical Psychologist and Paediatric Neuropsychologist Megan Fowler, this project brings together the latest in neuroscience, psychology, and personal storytelling to provide practical insights into how childhood experiences shape the brain, emotions, and lifelong wellbeing.

“As both a paediatric nurse and a mother, I found this course to be extremely invaluable. Not only has it given me insight into my son’s neurological development, but also skills for managing challenging behaviours in my older children. My step-daughter has had a fairly traumatic childhood, before now, and exhibits deep emotional dysregulation at times. By completing this course I am now able to better understand her behaviour and identify potential triggers for her. I have learnt to change my approach when she has a seemingly disproportionate outburst. I am learning to calm her using a more therapeutic approach which then allows her nervous system to return her to her safe place - making the meltdowns far easier to manage. As much as I thought I understood about children and their brain function, this course has given me an even greater understanding.”

"The Hand to Heart course offers clear, practical strategies for responding to our children’s behaviour. With a strong-willed child, I’ve been able to put the guidance into practice and have already noticed a significant shift in how she responds – our house is much calmer and I feel more confident in responding to big emotions. With continued practice, I can see how this will have a lasting, positive impact on how our children will be able to manage their emotions as they grow. Completing the course with my husband was especially valuable, as it opened up meaningful conversations and helped us align on how we want to grow and improve as parents."

  • The course is relevant for children from birth through adolescence. While brain development looks different at each stage, the principles of nervous system regulation, connection, and secure attachment apply across all ages.

  • No. While attachment is shaped early, the brain remains changeable across childhood and adolescence. Repair, responsiveness, and emotional safety can strengthen attachment at any age. This course focuses on practical ways to reconnect and rebuild trust, even if things haven’t always gone smoothly.

  • Not at all. Secure attachment grows from both emotional safety and consistent boundaries. This course teaches how to hold limits while staying connected, so children feel safe, understood, and guided—rather than controlled or ignored.
